Difference between Food Processor and Blender

Difference between Food Processor and Blender

While cooking, I often need the smooth texture of tomatoes or even the chopped ginger, so it can make my dish tastes delicious. However, there are different gadgets used to get all these things done in no time. Hence, each gadget has its functionality that reduces the preparation time. I must say that my kitchen has almost all the utensils.

Once my friend visits my house while I was cooking, and she was amused to see all the gadgets in one place. But suddenly, she asked me the difference between the food processor and blender. And I was like BLANK.

However, her question was good enough. Many of us don’t know the correct usage of both these machines and also the difference between the food processor and blender. So, I searched for some important things about this I would like to share with you.

What is Blender

Although, food processors and blenders seem to be the same and many of us also use them for the same purpose. But they have some differences between them. If we see the theoretical definition of the blender and food processer then in this term they are the same.

It can be defined as a jug with blades and a covering lid that put on the motor so its blades can move fast to cut the ingredient.

But if we look at the functioning definition then there is a difference between the food processor and the blender.

What is a blender?

A blender consists of a jug whose shape is like a cone and sharp blades inside the jug. The jug is attached with the motor when plugged in with the switch, it mFoves fast and changes the ingredients into a smooth liquid mixture.

What is a food processor?

A food processor jug is flat from the bottom, and the blades that are used in the food processor are S-shaped. When attached to the motor and the power is on, then it changes the ingredients into small pieces or chunks.

Hence, from the above-mentioned difference between the food processor and blender, we can conclude that the blender is used when we want the texture to be smooth, and the food processor works best when we want some chunks of material within the mixture.

However, blenders come in different types, one is the countertop blender with a high-speed motor, and the other types of blender are the portable or immersion blender. The countertop blender has a motor and a jug that has blades inside it. While an immersion blender is a handheld gadget, and it requires less space than the counter blender to be placed.

Hence, both are used for blending things in a smooth texture. However, if we discuss the food processor, then it has a variety of blades that are commonly used for chopping materials. The most common blades in the food processer are S-shaped.

I think now you can understand the difference between the food processor and the blender. But here, one more question arises that which one is best to use.

So, here we go.

Which is the best choice?

Here I am going to tell the basic purpose of both these machines. If you want to crush something for example cheese, or you want to cut the potatoes of equal thickness, then you can make use of the food processor as it gives you the advantage of adjusting the blades used for slicing.

Moreover, for other ingredients like beetroot or preparing salad, you need to cut vegetables like onion, carrot, tomato, and cucumber, then you can make use of this tool.

If you want to make dough for the pizza or the bread, then a food processor is the better option than the blender because the food processor kneads it well than the blender.

However, if you want the texture of the mixture not to be smooth enough and some particles should be left unblended, then, in this case, a food processor is the better option. Because in blenders, you don’t get the required texture as it quickly blends everything.

On the other hand, if we talk about the blender, then it is mainly designed to change ingredients into a smooth mixture. Whenever I want to make shakes or coffee, then I use blenders because no particle is left unblended.

The cone shape of the jug allows the ingredients to move down to the blades so all things get blended well. If you want the perfect results, then you must add a little quantity of water, so the things get mixed well.

Sometimes, you have to grind nuts, and a blender is the best option in this case, as I have mentioned earlier that its design is so effective that it forces the ingredients to move to the centre of the blades so it can do its task very well.

Where high power blenders are there many low power blenders too, which means the motor is cheap than the high power motor. Low power blenders can be used for crushing the ice to convert it into snow cones.

Hence, it is not done by the high-power motor blenders but if your blender is of lower wattage, then crushing the ice is an easy task for it.

The specialty of blenders and food processors:

Blender:

Blender has the specialty in following.

  • Purees
  • Smoothies.
  • Hummus.
  • Dressings.
  • Shakes.
  • Peanut butter.
  • Dips.
  • Sauces.

Food processors:

The specialty of the food processor is given below.

  • Chopped vegetables.
  • Sauces.
  • Shredded vegetables and cheese.
  • Dough for pizza or bread.
  • Butters.
  • Dressings.

In a nutshell, we can say that both things have their basic functionality and are best for a different purpose, but it does not mean that you have to buy both the gadgets for your kitchen. Many blenders or food processors are available in the market that can fulfil your requirements.

But the main point is the result you get from the required machine, will not be fulfilled. Hence, if you can buy both gadgets and also have an area to place them, then move forward and have them both. Again it is not essential.
